A Foreign Object in a Distant Realm takes viewers on a journey from an old to new culture, investigating relocation, time and place. The photographs, through differing angles, studio/camera techniques and colour processing shifts, employ visual metaphors such as fast food versus grains, and a book versus television image. A sense of order is created throughout the recurrent symbols of the cross and the radiating circles. The addition of English text evokes a European language and heritage. The selection of colour images, abstract and real, provide a sense of narrative and cohesion. Technical proficiency, sensitivity and playful insights are demonstrated within a formal structure. The combination of traditional photographic practice and digital images reflects the theme of journey and balances the dynamic and formal elements.
