The response is a focused, clearly articulated discussion of crime fiction. Suitable texts have been selected and a broad range of ideas is addressed. Conventions, ideas, values and purpose are dealt with in detail and the key terms of the question - notably 'enduring popularity' - are convincingly explored. The writing style is fluent, the examples are well chosen and convincingly analysed and the conclusion reasserts the arguments. Whilst there is a slight imbalance in the discussion of each of the four texts, the knowledge evident and detail offered demonstrate a good understanding of the genre.
