The response explores the concept of change by comparing the poem to a personal experience. The comparison to the cicada is well developed; however, the imagined experiences of the exchange student could have been developed further to add a richness to the ideas. There is a strong reliance on the images in the poem to create an emotional response. The response demonstrates sound use of the register and structure of the text type to express ideas.
