E1/2 Response 2
Although the plot requires the characters to be confused about the identities of themselves and others, there are insufficient clues to allow the reader to weave the perspectives and chapters into a coherent whole. The number of characters and frequent shifts in plot focus mean that it is difficult to establish their past and present connections. While this blurring of the boundaries may be intentional, as stated in the Reflection Statement, the resulting confusion detracts from reader engagement. More careful editing is required, as the frequency of both grammatical and stylistic errors detract from the overall flow of the work. The Reflection Statement attempts to justify stylistic problems by describing the work as 'sort of post modern'. This claim is not backed up by research into postmodernism and the discussion is more a personal recount of the writing process than an explanation of decisions made. The purpose and audience are not mentioned. Employing a truncated narrative style detracts from the reflective purpose of the Statement.
