Band 3/4 Response 1
Seven Deadly Thins illustrates a stylised model parading on a catwalk. One drypoint plate has been printed seven times and mounted on a piece of purple fabric. A collage of fashion magazine images and text has been added using the chine colle technique. This format invites the audience to read the work as a narrative that parodies and questions the fashion industry. Images of super models and designers are juxtaposed with weight reducing products such as 'lite milk' to communicate the manipulative 'evils' within the industry as suggested by the title 'Seven Deadly Thins'. Some references are humorous, particularly the whimsical portraits in the crowd where many faces are treated as individuals. This adds some conceptual strength to the work. Inconsistencies occur in the technical resolution. The draughting of the form is awkward and the printing plates are unevenly inked and wiped.
