The work powerfully and coherently evokes the emotion and alienation inherent in the state of Psychosis through a series of stark yet enigmatic images. The series is conceptually highly developed with the haunting focal point of the standing figure starkly contrasted with the sophisticated use of controlled saturated colour and lighting. The larger images suggest a claustrophobic film-noir world; some of the smaller, digitally manipulated images include pertinent yet subtle text. The appropriate use of acrylic alludes to the barrier that separates the psychotic individual from the 'real' world. The exemplary use of colour reversal amplifies the subject matter, and the combination of illumination and dense shadows creates a chilling, dramatic mood that is sustained throughout the work.
