Band 6 Response Low
Fly…in the face of is an extensive series of black and white photographs depicting children in various mid-air poses. The frozen action of the poses gives the series freshness, buoyancy and tension, with a couple of the images journeying into the surreal. Some of the works invoke an ephemeral quality, which suggest mystery, innocence and wonderment. More than just 'snaps', the images bring out the subjects' individual personalities. This rapport between photographer and subject is faithful to the traditions of studio photography. The series displays refinement and sensitivity through a tight selection of darkroom techniques. The use of the full grey scale from black to white in a section of the body of work is complemented by the sharp contrast of the remainder of the works. A variety of carefully arranged angles of view enhance the action of the poses.
