A Trick of the Light attempts to explore emotionally dire situations and would benefit from greater control and variation of narrative voice and register. The Major Work would be improved with increased characterisation. Insights into schizophrenia are undeveloped. The authenticity of the work would be enhanced through greater investigation into the role of institutions and institutional procedures. The Reflection Statement briefly acknowledges investigation; however, this is not explored in sufficient detail. There are only limited connnections to English Advanced and Extension courses. The audience is acknowledged, but is very general.
