E2/3 Response 3
The Root of Tranquility is a substantial and coherent Major Work in which the writer intends to explore relationships, functional and dysfunctional, by developing distinctive inner/domestic and outer/natural worlds. Ideas are derivative of texts cited in the Reflection Statement and development is hampered by simple language, predictable plot and scant character development. The claims that the work is a fractured fairytale that employs conventions of Magic Realism are not fully realised in the short story. The Reflection Statement reveals that research is superficial in terms of the narrative concepts and research into the short story medium are not evident. The interrogation of the language features and structure of the narrative reveals limited understanding of the author's relationship with purpose and audience.
