Band 1/2 Response 1
My Life consists of two drawn panels and one painted panel. Personal and cultural symbols investigate differing approaches to representation and pattern making. There is a degree of proficiency in the use of paint and patterning in one panel, but this is not sustained. The flat design in the painted panel achieves some delicacy, but this is limited by the uneven application of paint. In the drawn panels, colour combinations are uneven and coloured pencil has been applied with an inconsistent understanding of tonal variations or layering. Beyond obvious decorative qualities and pattern making choices, the works do not explore how images can be organised to communicate ideas.
