Influential is a large, freestanding body of work exploring a close relationship, perhaps that of twins. Human interaction is represented as bright and cheerful in this dual portrait bust in painted clay. The quaint pleasant charm in the expressions of the “twins” endears and engages the audience. It is brightly painted in complementary colours with relatively heavily modelled hairstyles. The heads tilting towards each other enhance the feeling of togetherness and oneness. The modelled form is more successful at the back of the head, as the child-like modelling of the faces and hands, though cheerful, is not enhanced by the insensitive application of paint. The paint delineates the planes of the 3D form but fails to enhance its modelling. This work lacks refinement and meanings are limited.
