ONSTAGE 'Self Portrait' explores a range of expressions, emotions and theatrical poses, six of which are in mime make-up, reminiscent of Marcel Marceau. They represent a journey of observation and interpretation of the personality of the young artist. The medium format images use deep yet revealing shadows in classical photographic style. The sequential series of smaller images use a white background where the subject moves gradually out of the viewfinder, adding humour and playful rhythms. Each panel and/or individual photograph has been carefully selected to further the concept of self-exploration. A high degree of confidence in composition is displayed, along with technical sensitivity through the use of emotive lighting, a variety of viewpoints and sound darkroom practice.
