Tactile is a sophisticated, seductive and sustained collection of abstract paintings which have a lush surface treatment. Techniques such as scumbling, dragging, dribbling, dry brush, crackle, collage, text and layering have been used with restraint and sensitivity. Each work is deliberate and purposeful and has solved visual problems with different compositional devices and surface treatments. Overlaid areas of glaze and colour unify the work. A deep understanding of the language of abstraction, and the way it evokes a sensory response, is demonstrated. The larger panel demonstrates a brave and knowledgeable application of dramatic matte and gloss turquoise in a dominant rectangular form, revealing an audacious and confident approach to the practice of painting. The work is exploratory and resolved, demonstrating great confidence.
