Band 1/2 Response 1
Escapism through Technology is a single repeated dry point image of an enlarged eye in monochromatic colours ranging from black through to green. Computer-generated images have been used as collage to further enhance the pupils of each eye. Hand colouring with crayons and pencils is also evident. The patterns and symbols are reminiscent of psychedelic patterns. They create a sense of unease, giving the illusion of a vortex or tunnel enhancing the concept of escapism. Tonal passages, which coincide with the directional marks cut into the surface of the plate, attempt to create form. Repetition has been used merely as a structural device and adds little to the concept of escapism.
