Band 3/4 Response 1
Echoes of the World is an articulate critique of ecological disaster. It captures the chaos of the post-industrial age, through the montage of mechanical detritus. The human reference is deliberately limited in the ideal/virtual world. This absence increases the audience's emotional engagement with the work. The horizontal orientation is sensitivity reflected in the composition; however, the digital manipulation has little subtlety and does not go beyond the basic 'feathered' assemblage. The powerful theme evokes transparent conceptual concern which could be strengthened by a less-clichéd presentation.
